Opal Child de reiv (Oliver Ponsonnet)

Opal Child
3ds max, mental ray
June 2008

Hi, Here is my latest artwork.
Nothing particular to say here, I just tied to create a nice picture representing an elegant child and his monkey.
Everything was modelled and rendered using 3DS Max and Mental Ray. Textures were hand painted using PS. Final color corrections, grain and dof were also added in PS.

Hope you'll like it!

Never After de dark-spider (Cris Ortega)

Never After
Photoshop
March 2009

I supposse we could say this is like a twisted version of the Frog Prince tale, or something like that . I have the sketch of this one done since last year, but couldn't work on it because of the lack of time. So when I was able to work on it again, I spent most time than usual, trying to have all the fun possible . Personal project, done in Photoshop.

My latest personal painting about the classic tale, which I wanted to take to another level what comes to symbolism and storytelling of this 'eternal' pair of contradiction.
Original inspiration came from a book illustration made by English famous artist Harry Rountree.
' Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart. '

Blood elf by zman (Ziv Qual)

Blood elf
3ds max, mental ray, Photoshop
August 2006

After half a year of no free-time personal projects, I run across a sketch of a blood elf from Blizzard's game and was flooded with inspiration. I've decided to make my own version of it.
I've started with a basic body model which I previusly had, and modeled the base robe over it, I then modeled all the armor parts on top of it. All I can briefly say is that the SHELL modifier was very helpfull here
The hair is max's hair and I am pretty happy with the result, too bad the effect ended up hiding the best parts of it ...
I used mental ray to render, tho' I didnt really use any of "advanced" feature 'xcpt for maybe ambient occlusion.
I rendered many many different passes and put it all togheter with photoshop.
I've decided to make this in print resolution in case it might get into a Ballistic book so there are lots of small details there
Here's a closer look at the face -

First of all, this is not Louis and Claudia from Interview with the Vampire, so none of that, please
I've had this idea(not exactly this, but along the same motif) in my mind for many years now, but until now never quite had the confidence to pull this off. The original idea was much more grandiose and on a much larger scale. The reason I scaled this down and incorporated less detail is because I want the focus to be on the two central figures and, and the smaller scale creates a sense of intimacy.
The superficial storyline is about a little rich girl who is in love with her piano teacher. But what I really want to portray is the unfulfilled desire of two people who can never see each other as equals/peers(in this case, because of age and social status). I am also, in a way, challenging the notion of how children are seen as unable/not supposed to have 'adult' emotions. I wish I could have articulated this better, but here's the closeup

and yes, the painting behind the piano is there for a reason.

This is the first time I'm submitting a work to CGTalk, frankly it's because I feel so intimidated. Everyone here is so good and skilled, I just feel...bad, but this is probably something I feel is good enough to be here. Honest critiques, please. I need to hear those.
