Title is from a My Dying Bride(surprise, surprise) song from their latest album "A Line of Deathless Kings", although I have had this image in my mind before it was released
Influence: I am deeply fascinated by the Sublime painters/art movement, so I looked at quite a lot of Sublime genre paintings to get an idea for this picture.
A lot of these are new for me, for example I've never really paint any landscape to this scale, movement or dynamism before. So yeah, I am trying out new things.
The story behind this picture is that the figure in front is a sorceress wreaking havoc and destruction upon a ship. haha, nothing much here..or yes?

A commissioned piece
sorry I haven't been around as much as I should lately. I'm busy with commissions and such, and my laptop, being...well...it's about to crumble, so it's just a tiny bit slower than a snail :/
I truly enjoyed working on this one! I learned many things in this pic. Her face, IMHO, is one of, if not the prettiest face I've ever painted.
oh, btw, I've finally caught up with everyone else and replaced my ancient PS 7 with PS CS3! better late than never, ha ha ha XD (so yes this is my first piece done in CS3 oh yay)

I originally painted the traditional maiko makeup on the character's face, though I later decided against it but still want to keep the title anyway...it is yet another attempt to immerse 2D & 3D elements together with lots of Far Eastern, more specifically, Japanese influence

whee my first piece of the year 
okay it's originally done as er, my dA journal header thingie....but i seem to have gotten carried away. It's a quickie that turned out to not be that quick.


yep the person on the right is a guy, and yep they're meant to be the same people from My Dearest picture, except that I changed the guy's eye colour from autumny green to steely blue. Plus I added eyeliners, because I felt like it and I like boys in eyeliner. ha ha! 


is super vaintastic, but I used myself as reference for the girl. But then again, I also used my own photo as the reference for the girl in My Dearest ..may as well keep it consistent! 


The guy is based on Ville Valo (just as in My Dearest), plus Jon Kortajarena. He's also a bit like Louis from Interview with a Vampire crossed with the kind of guys I see in goth and industrial clubs/clubnights around here, and also maybe a pinch of Marilyn Manson.

I started painting this perhaps a month - or almost two - back. Prior to that I haven't been doing anything for a while - I was just so insanely busy. This is meant to be a 'warm-up', you know, when you haven't done something in a while you tend to get rusty, so I wanted to do something relatively 'easy'.


This is very South-East Asian influenced, and also I wanted to do something fusion-y.


I hope I will do something more exciting in terms of concept and composition in my future works, but here it is for now 


Some parts of the background have texture overlays from stock texture photos (esp on the top centre, top left and left side).

This is a relative 'quickie' (not really..but we only have a week to do it) or Conceptart.org's Character of the Week #104 The Four Brothers, I don't have the time to paint all four of them so I painted only the Jack of Spades and Jack of Clubs.


I have used references for both, mainly for the outfits. For the Jack of Spades ("is suave, sophisticated, and self centered"), I pretty much bastardized men's outfits from Van Dyck's portraits..ha ha ha, and for Jack of Clubs I just mishmashed lots of Spanish, German 16th century whatever armour together.


I also experimented with starting with greyscale then colour it, because it seems like many artists swear by this method. However it so did not go well for me, but at least now it confirms what I know that I suck at colouring greyscales and know to stick with starting my usual method. ha ha :P

errr, it's originally done for CGTalk's Daily Sketch Group forum, topic 'Apollo' with the time limit of 50 minutes. When I reached my 50 minute mark I thought, hm this has a potential, so I spent way too many hours more working on this. I couldn't really bear painting this for much longer, because I seem to have a very short attention span, or something. Anyway yes, it's a bit cheesy, but hey, it was only an overworked sketch. I'm sure there's some sloppy parts in this, something I would fix had I more patience.
So yes, this is Apollo, god of the silver bow, distant deadly archer, the eternal kouroi etc. etc. It's kinda funny yet disturbing how he ended up looking more like a Las Vegas male stripper than a Greek god, but ah well.

First of all, this is not Louis and Claudia from Interview with the Vampire, so none of that, please 
I've had this idea(not exactly this, but along the same motif) in my mind for many years now, but until now never quite had the confidence to pull this off. The original idea was much more grandiose and on a much larger scale. The reason I scaled this down and incorporated less detail is because I want the focus to be on the two central figures and, and the smaller scale creates a sense of intimacy.
The superficial storyline is about a little rich girl who is in love with her piano teacher. But what I really want to portray is the unfulfilled desire of two people who can never see each other as equals/peers(in this case, because of age and social status). I am also, in a way, challenging the notion of how children are seen as unable/not supposed to have 'adult' emotions. I wish I could have articulated this better, but here's the closeup

This is the first time I'm submitting a work to CGTalk, frankly it's because I feel so intimidated. Everyone here is so good and skilled, I just feel...bad, but this is probably something I feel is good enough to be here. Honest critiques, please. I need to hear those.

A repaint of a character I painted completely out of a whim some years back. I did this for a book submission. I tried to create this somewhat sinister expression on his face, and heh, tried really hard to give his skin this abalaster translucence that hints that he might be well, more than just some pale, slightly creepy looking guy . After all, he's meant to be a vampire!
Also, I'm quite aware of how bright my screen is...I actually kind of like it that way, but it also kind of means that my painting tends to appear really dark. I appreciate feedback on how this picture appears on your screen.

Me gusta precisamente la representación de la idea de chinos en esta imagen, especialmente la chica que se posaban en un hermoso vestido en el contexto oscuro. El rayo y el estilo de todo es excelente. Un poco triste y dramática que sigue atrayendo la atención y hace que la ilustración memorable.
