Arte Digital de CryingHorn (Andrius Balciunas)

The Gate
3ds max, Photoshop
May 2006

This is my entry for CGsociety Challenge The Journey Begins
---
It’s difficult to walk the path when you don’t know where it leads to and it’s even more difficult when no one knows… But we did and we found it, even though everyone thought we were chasing the illusion. We went through so much, but it was worth it. Now I feel like I want to laugh, because, honestly, I was starting to doubt about all this myself... And here it is, just in front of our eyes. This is no paradise, because we’re not dead, this is our attained merit and it’s just about to begin…

Homesick de CryingHorn (Andrius Balciunas)

Homesick
3ds max, Photoshop, ZBrush
January 2011

Hey everyone

I'm happy to show you my latest image. I came up with this concept last summer and I felt for doing it with more challenging attitude this time then usual. This is the most biggest personal project I've done so far. The most challenging part was the table and the ornaments. They are purely modeled in classic poly modeling way. The whole scene had 12 mil polygons in the end and 74 textures varying from 512 to 6k resolution size.

Anyway hope you'll like it

Cheers!

Here are some crops from highres and 2 alternate render shots.

Shadow Conscious de CryingHorn (Andrius Balciunas)

I wanted to make her look thoughtful, realizing of being forgotten. This was the first time I attempted making realistic character. All textures are hand painted.
Have you ever felt being unoticed? It seems like you are doing everything "ok", but everybody just simply ignore you. Not that everybody hates or dislikes you, not even like they don't care about you... You are doing your best but they just simply... ignore you... You'll probably start blame others OR yourself. Which of these choises is the right one? I mean right for you... why bother so much about that choise, are you really that empty and sad

Four Nights Fountain de CryingHorn (Andrius Balciunas),

Four Nights Fountain
3ds max
December 2005

Hello, here is my image that I created for Spectacular challenge. For floating water I used RealFlow and for texturing and other 2D things - PSP9.
Storyline
Once there was a man. When he was a child he used to play in the near woods with his favorite slingshot which he got as a present from his father. He shot leaves, trees, rocks, and he had fun. But once he saw a bird on the high tree drinking drops of dew from leaves. He looked beautiful, and his feathers on the back were gorgeous. The living target is something that a real hunter should hunt to, he thought. The bird looked calm and relaxed, he didn’t saw a human near by. The kid aimed and made his perfect shot. The bird immediately felt down on the ground near some green grass which started becoming red with bird’s blood. His scared look went to the young hunter who was coming towards him. With that look he started to move trying to safe himself, but he was too weak to do something. When the kid finally came close to him the bird was just staring at him with his dead eyes still full of fear. The kid started to cry and shake. He felt how his conscience began to torture him. He was scared so much that at one moment he almost swooned. Excuses seemed pathetic in that situation, though he was still screaming them. He felt like that for four days and nights. And then he made a promise, that some day his guilt will be redeemed.
His life continued, he became a professional architect and he was quite famous and very successful at his job. In his entire carrier he built lots of buildings, memorials and monuments which all were special, making everyone to smile and feel comfortable. When he became old he remembered his promise, he remembered it all the time. So he came back to that wood, and started to build a… fountain. This was the best work of all that he had ever done only by himself. When he finished it, he took a few steps back to see it all. He was standing for a while and thinking about something; “…four nights…” he gently smiled and said:
- This fountain will finish crying my sorrow over that bird which is still left in me…
After that he quietly went away.
When his soul left this world it was a warm late evening. That evening, birds of that wood first time accepted his warm, hearty, ingenuous and so weightless… magical redeem which finally has got forgiveness.
…breathe, drink, play, enjoy… …Four Nights Fountain…
Hope you'l like it!
Comments and critics are very welcome!

Crow de Andrius Balciunas (CryingHorn)

Crow
3ds max, mental ray, Photoshop, ZBrush
January 2009

Hello everyone,
Here is my new work. This is a concept I’ve been keeping in my mind for quite long, which I've finally decided to do in 3d. Actually I started with something very abstract, but in progress it evolved into this. I've used 3dsmax as main tool. The rendering of full resolution took enormous amount of time because of glossy reflective shaders and hair which were fully responding to GI and raytraced shadows.
Here is also a wip thread if you are interested:

Anyway hope you like it,
cheers

Open green by Cryinghorn (Andrius Balciunas)

Open Green
3ds max, mental ray, Photoshop, ZBrush
August 200

"This is probably the first time I made an image starting with color scheme. I saw a photo where a green leaf is put on human arm and I thought that those two colors suit each other so great. So that was basically enough for me to inspire me on this.

This is no one particular. I've used reference of Adriana Karembeu, but I didn't want to make her.

Made with 3dsmax, with the little help of zbrush. Textures are hand painted, ornaments made using various patterns kaleidoscoping them, editing and so on. Hair, eyebrows and eyelashes made using ornatrix. Cloth is simulated.

Don't know what else to say... hope you’ll like it.

Cheers

Here are some close-ups:"
