AmalgaMATE de MichaelO (Michael Oswald)
AmalgaMATEPhotoshopJanuary 2008
Title: AmalgaMATE
Name: Michael Oswald
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop
I really like this pose. It looks very, stern and strong, yet feminine. I tried to figure out how to retain those elements while also, doing what I do best, enhancing the image into something different. I started by sketching out various muscle masses then breaking them up into sections.
As for the name, Amalgamate means to mix two things to make them one. I see that here as being the merger between technology and humanity. And, as much as I hate to say it, you could also see this as being sexual in nature but that's a metaphor for another day.

Arte Digital de MichaelO (Michael Oswald)
Title: Carve Your Own Destiny
Name: Michael Oswald
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop
I wanted to make another image with the same theme as my other work, 'Timeless Beauty.' I really like combining both sculpture and painting into one and this time I was able to add an interesting concept to it. I also like to combine tradtional themes with modern techniques. This is all Photoshop and people always find this interesting... all mouse. Well, I use my tablet for hair but that's all!

Oh my!
For those who don't know, a 'dream catcher' is a Native American web-like object that is meant to catch bad dreams in its web and let good dreams through the center hole. As you can see, there is quite a nice dream coming through the middle of this one.

Talk about a random photo shoot! This was like 1 am downtown in some random guys apartment using my clients lighting equipment who i had just met earlier that day. The Make-Up Artist was Rachel Starr (google her). Crazy town!
I used hands from a different photo, in fact it might have been a few different photos.
Manipulated and painted in Photoshop.

I was asked by the client to emulate something that resembled the covers of the old comic book: Conan the Barbarian. Some of those covers were done by Boris Vallejo so I had my work cut out for me. One common theme that the covers had was 'damsel in distress' and that fit well with the image I was given.

AmalgaMATE III de MichaelO (Michael Oswald)
AmalgaMATE III
May 2010
t's been almost a year and a half since AmalgaMATE II was finished, so I felt it was time I created number 3. Since both 1 and 2 were featured on the cover of a magazine, it would be silly of me not to continue the series.
The design is a mixture of the first two which varied slightly. I like to think it is improving.
Model: Natasha Lazareva
Yes, she has loooong legs!
This (like all my work) is technically photo-manipulation. Here you can see the original image

I had fun with this one! It took two full days (only stopping to eat, sleep and go to the bathroom) and now i'm seeing stars.
I worked with this model a year ago and got a good image from the set (AmalgaMATE 3) but it was a shame that I hadn't done any close ups of this beautiful face.
PS: I like freckles!
Reference photo:
The hair and body were merged from various other shots in Photoshop.
A tablet (which i rarely use) was used for the hair.

Contact de MichaelO
This was completed about 3 months ago but I had to hold on to it because it was made exclusively for UCE magazine's Space Odyssey issue, which is now available... [link] The fact that it made it onto the cover was a welcome surprise! I'm now more confident that my work is capable of being featured in other fashion/style/art publications

AmalgaMATE 5 de MichaelO (Michael Oswald)

#5 is fresh off the assembly line!
It's tough for me to continue or improve on the quality of this set but i try to maintain it as best i can. The others have been my best sellers in galleries so on this one i tried to give it as much 'artistic' appeal as possible.
I went back and forth on the lighting for this and I finally realized that i needed to avoid the one color that i have used throughout in order to make this one work, which is black.
I also broke my cardinal rule of not using stock images but i couldn't pass this one up.
